The primary purpose of this research is to determine the role of the right of veto granted to the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. The first part of the thesis provides the general overview of the UNSC reform efforts. By analyzing these reforms from the perspective of the Veto Player Theory, the research proves the ineffectiveness of the efforts to reform the UNSC and the power of blocking any change which is not beneficial for the P5. The second part focuses on the right of veto and assesses the impact of this power on the peacekeeping operations of the UNSC. The results of the research reveal the de facto role of the veto in the context of the international relations. Through the analysis of famous case studies such as the revolutions in Libya and Syria this thesis clearly demonstrates that, the right of veto, being exercised in accordance with the national interests of the P5, does not fulfill its initial function prescribed in the Charter of the United Nations.en_US
